In Veda, Brāhmaṇa (Brahmana) and Upaniṣad (Upanishad), the term udgītha (udgitha) is found many times. Udgītha generally means — the yajña -related activities of the Sāmavedic priest, Udgātā (Udgata). In the commentary of Chāndogya Upaniṣad (Chandogya Upanishad), Śankarācārya (Sankaracharya)has written, there is a secondary attribute of bhakti (devotion) in the term udgītha. So, the sense of devotion remains silently embedded in the the yajña -related activities of the Udgātā —
udgītham udgīthabhaktyupalakṣitam audagātraṃ karma.
