Near Vāmana (Vamana) Parvata (mountain), the land immediately after Uṣṇadeśa (Ushnadesa, the warm land) is Prāvaradeśa (Pravaradesa), and beyond that lies Andhakāradeśa (Andhakaradesa; the dark land). Scholars have identified Andhakārdeśa as Siberia, because here night reigns for six months at a stretch. The region from the north-eastern side of Kṛṣṇasāgara (Krishnasagara; the Black Sea), to Siberia is defined as Andhakāradeśa.
