Arantuka is the name of a kṣetrarakṣaka (kshetrarakshaka; field-protector) dvārapāla (dvarapala; gatekeeper). The place associated with him is also named after him. The region sorrounded from four sides by Arantuka, Tatantuka, Rāmahrada (Ramahrada)and Macukruka (machukruka0 — is known as Kurukṣetra (Kurukshetra) and Samantapañcaka (Samantapanchaka). This is also known as Uttaravedi — the place of yajña(yajna) presided over by the divine grandsire Brahmā(Brahma).
