According to Bhāgavatapurāṇa (Bhagavatapurana), Sukarmā (Sukarma), disciple of Jaiminī (Jaimini), divided Sāmaveda(Samaveda) into several branches. Āvantya (Avantya) is one of those disciples who learned these branches of Sāmaveda from Sukarmā (Sukarma). This Āvantya had five hundred disciples, too.
