Ulūka (Uluka) was one of the sons of Maharṣi (Maharshi; Great Sage) Viśvāmitra (Viswamitra). Amvā (Amva), while practicing tapasyā (tapasya; ascetic penance). was travelling across several sites of pilgrimage, and at that time she visited the hermitage of Ulūka. Along with other sages, he also came to see Bhīṣma (Bhishma) lying on his bed of arrows, in Kurukṣetra (Kurukshetra).
