Svāyambhuva Manu (Svayambhuva Manu; the first of the fourteen Manus) is known as adhipuruṣa (adhipurusha). In Matsyapurāṇa (Matsyapurana) it is said that as humankind is born from its progenitor Svāyambhuva Manu and as he is the foremost archetype of a complete man in appearance and characteristics, therefore, the primordial progenitor of humankind – Svāyambhuva Manu is known as adhipuruṣa

Svāyambhuva iti khyataḥ sah biraṛiti naḥ śrutamah

Tadrupaguṇasāmānyādadhipuruṣa ucyate
