In Vāyupurāṇa (Vayupurana), Ayāsya (Ayasya) has been mentioned as Ayasya. Ayāsya was one of the sons born of the womb of Pathyā (Pathya), and sired by Maharṣi (Maharshi; Great Sage) Aṅgirā (Angira). In Purāṇa (Purana; Mythological Scripture), his name has been mentioned as one of the mantradraṣṭā (seer of holy hymns) sages of Veda. He performed as the Sāmavedic priest or Udgātā (Udgata) in the Puruṣamedha Yajña (Purushamedha Yajna) conducted by King Hariścandra (Harischandra) of Ikṣvākuvaṃśa (Ikshvakuvamsa; the royal line of Ikshvaku). In Veda, this sage is known as Āṅgirasa Ayāsya. In the ninth Maṇḍala (Mandala; cycle) of Ṛgveda (Rigveda), he is referred to as the seer of the sūktas from 44 to 46; and he is also the seer of the hymns numbering 67-68 in the tenth Maṇḍala of Ṛgveda. In Vṛhadāraṇyaka Upaniṣad (Vrihadaranyaka Upanishad), Ayāsya is the son of Ābhūti (Abhuti) Tvāṣṭra (Twashtra), and he is also Āṅgirasa.
